More About Tuscany
Located in west-central Italy on the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Seas, Tuscany is composed of 10 provinces: Arezzo, Florence, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa-Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena. The cities are full of cultural heritage, architectural marvels and home to many renowned artists, such as Michelangelo, Filippo Brunelleschi and Giovanni Boccaccio, whose work remains here. The countryside offers stunning landscapes made up of golden wheat fields, distinctive cypress rows, olive groves, vineyards and quaint hilltop villages. In the summertime, watch as the rolling hills bloom vibrant with sunflowers.
Chianti : Situated between Florence and Siena, the Chianti region, nicknamed Chiantishire, produces one of the most well-known red wines around the world, Chianti.
Lucca : On the Serchio River, the city of Lucca is encircled by Le Mura (Walls of Lucca) a series of 500-year-old Renaissance era walls made from brick, stone and earthwork fortifications, and topped with horse chestnut and plane trees, many of which are centuries old.
Pisa : Along the Arno River which empties into the Ligurian Sea, the city of Pisa is home to the Tower of Pisa, the freestanding bell tower of Pisa Cathedral that took nearly 200 years to build, and is most famous for its unintended tilt that became noticeable as workers built the second floor.
Siena : A city distinguished by its medieval brick buildings and the Torre del Mangia, a 14th century white-crowned tower offering sweeping views.
Vinci : This small town is the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci and features a Leonardo museum.
