The Caribbean - An Island for Everyone
The Caribbean islands are a world of their own, with hundreds of unique islands and endless destinations to explore. You'll find yourself surrounded by nature, culture, and unique experiences no matter where you find yourself. If you’ve ever wanted to experience your own private island, now is your chance to do so. There truly is an island for everyone, so not only are you able to experience an exquisite area of our world, you’re able to do it without the crowds and you will connect with the culture, people, food, and local scene.
Some of my favorite locations are spread throughout all the islands, so when I’m asked to pinpoint my top destinations to visit it can be tough. They are all uniquely beautiful and contribute some things that others can not.
Experience culture and art at the Straw Market.
The Straw Market on Bay Street & Pirate Republic Brewing Company, Nassau, Bahamas
I first fell in love with the Caribbean on a trip with my family. I experienced a lot of firsts, but my favorite first was experiencing the culture and the Straw Market on Bay Street. Located in downtown Nassau, Bay Street is filled with shops both authentic and souvenir, many of these shops are run by authentic Bahamian craft-makers.
Located a few blocks from the Straw Market is the Pirate Republic Brewing Company, the first and only craft brewery in the Bahamas - Opens a dialog . After a stroll through the market, it is a fun place to stop in and get a drink and food.
Conch is delicious and a staple in the local cuisine in Turks and Caicos.
Fish Fry in Provo, Turks and Caicos
Speaking of food, which is always my favorite part of traveling, the fish fry in Provo is a must do. Every Thursday locals and tourists alike gather in Bright Park for a day filled with music, food and souvenir shopping. A new band plays each week, and some of the island's top restaurants sample their specialty menu items, like conch salad, lobster mac and cheese and crab. If you have never tasted conch before, Turks and Caicos is the place to do it. The Conch is a large edible marine snail and plays a large role in Turks and Caicos - Opens a dialog . Conch is delicious and a staple in the local cuisine. The beautiful shells have been used as musical instruments although particularly tricky to master, and are a symbol on the Turks and Caicos flag. Make sure to try some while you are there.
