Louisiana is more than alligators and Mardi Gras parades – it is a state with a wealth of cultural influences, diverse topographies and extensive historical roots. Louisiana's culinary roots run deep and are drawn from French, Spanish, African and Caribbean cultures. The history of this state is equally varied and blended, visible in the architecture of houses, churches, mausoleums and plantations. Visit one of the many state parks, enjoy a night on Bourbon Street, or browse one of the museums. Whatever your ideal vacation includes, Louisiana has something for everyone.

More About Louisiana
Louisiana is home to America’s Creole and Cajun cultures and cuisine; the tangible blend of history between the French, Spanish and African people who made the area their home before and after the United States purchased the land in 1803. The Mississippi River runs from the north to the south, ending in the Gulf of Mexico. While it’s known for its bayous, there are also beaches, parks, and campgrounds. If outdoor activities are not for you, Louisiana also has unique museums, festivals and the Audubon Zoo.

General Safety Tips: By taking a few simple security precautions before and during your vacation, you can help ensure that you, your traveling companions, and your valuables are as safe and secure as possible.
- To make it easier to replace your passport if it’s lost or stolen, in addition to your passport, take a photocopy of your passport information page (keeping it separate from your actual passport).
- Carry only a limited amount of cash, just enough for gratuities and incidental purchases. Major credit cards are widely accepted and can be replaced if lost or stolen.
- Always lock your hotel room door (including patio and balcony door on any level of the building) and use the peephole before opening the door.
- Store your valuables (such as cash, credit cards and airline tickets) in the hotel’s in-room safe or front desk safety deposit box.
- If you must carry valuables on your person, do so in a pouch or money belt concealed under your clothing. Purses and backpacks can be easy targets for thieves.
