Chances are that if you were asked to draw your idea of a Pacific island, you might come up with a picture that looks like Bora Bora, which has rainforest covered peaks soaring more than 2,000 feet above a classic lagoon of blues and greens. The entire volcanic mass is surrounded by a ring of coral reef and tiny islets with lovely beaches and coconut trees. The island itself can be explored in a few hours; there are sweeping beaches in the south and ancient Polynesian temples hidden in the jungle. It's populated by 8,880 Polynesians who love to show visitors their treasured lagoon and its marine inhabitants. They also love to entertain visitors with music and dance. The island is a caldera, or collapsed volcano; Pofai Bay is the crater center, while the towering Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu are all that remain of the volcano walls.
Swim/Snorkel the Lagoon : The crystal-clear water and the mild temperature, mean snorkeling and swimming in this blue lagoon is especially beautiful. Manta rays, fish, moral eels, and corals are just a few of the sights to be found under the surface.
Mount Otemanu : This is the eye-catching extinct volcano in the center of the island. You may hike around the base, but the summit is not reachable.
Pearl Markets : Tahiti is famous for their black pearls. There are many farms which produce a wide variety of colors, sizes, and shapes. You will have thousands to choose from, settings are available for purchase, or you can take them home with you to set later if you wish.
Island Tour : An island tour is an enjoyable way to see the landscapes of this beautiful island. The guides know the stories of the Polynesian gods and chiefs and take you to secluded areas not often seen.
