"Aulani" is Hawaiian for "messenger of a chief" which is fitting since the resort serves as a messenger of Hawaii's heritage. As I quickly found upon my arrival, this beautiful resort is an architectural gem that comes as a result of Disney Imagineers working closely with local historians and builders who were inspired by indigenous building traditions throughout the creation of Aulani. The resort's artful Hawaiian design elements are evident: Its two massive 15 story exterior bas relief sculptures (on the resort structures) feature the Hawaiian concept of balance as well as Hawaiian gods and outrigger canoes sailing the open ocean. Throughout the resort, Hawaiian legends continue with placement of many Menehune statues (which invites quite the fun scavenger hunt for families).
Villas are ideal for multigenerational family vacations.
Aulani's luau spectacular, KA WA'A is a celebration of Hawaiian heritage and culture. This outdoor stage production impressed me far beyond any other luau that I experienced previously. The convergence of Disney production sensibilities with Hawaiian music and dance makes KA WA'A an epic celebration for you and your family to enjoy. And this luau is further enhanced with a grand gastronomic feast.
Guest spaces within Aulani are in line with all that I enjoy about Disney resorts: Unique, spacious and mindful of guest needs. However, Aulani takes things a step further with Hawaiian touches that evoke the spirit of Aloha mixed with Disney hallmarks – such as: Hawaiian floral print fabrics, carpets, wall treatments and more are designed with subtle touches of Hidden Mickeys. Whether you choose standard guest rooms or fully equipped villas, you can experience these accommodations with patios or lanai balconies that face the ocean, mountains, or views of Aulani's lush gardens and pools. While standard room accommodations occupy up to 4 guests, some villa accommodations can occupy from 4 to 12 of your family members!

Multigenerational in every way, you and your family can spend time enjoying Aulani's two water slides and lazy river, take a hula class, watch movies under the stars and more. However, in those moments where the parents require "me" time, Aulani's 23,000 square foot Laniwai Spa offers 150 treatments, including the traditional Hawaiian Signature Lomilomi therapy treatment which I found to be a very effective and relaxing spa treatment. While you're enjoying the spa, Aunty's Beach House will guide your children through the history of Hawaiian culture through storytelling, music and hula lessons.
