Planning a Honeymoon in COVID Times
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! We understand how important this milestone is in your life and would like to help you plan a memorable getaway for you and your new spouse. With COVID restrictions, planning any kind of travel can be intimidating. Here are some quick tips we hope will give you the upper hand so you can create the honeymoon experience of your dreams.
Planning a honeymoon should be a fun activity to do as a couple.
Pick Your Destination Early and Research, Research, Research
With differing restrictions in place it’s important to select whether you are going to honeymoon internationally or in the United States. If you decide you want to go to Europe, or the Caribbean, or anywhere outside of the U.S., be sure to research the destination to find out their COVID restrictions and requirements. Find out if you need a COVID vaccination, a negative test or sometimes they even require both. Research the mask policy… indoors, outdoors, non-vaccinated or everyone.
If you choose to stay in the United States, be aware that many states have different and sometimes even conflicting guidelines so we advise you to research by state… even by city.
Flying to your destination? Make sure you know the airline policy on vaccinations and COVID tests. Masks are required onboard aircraft, even if you are fully vaccinated. The good news is that aircraft have HEPA filters that remove 99.9% of airborne particles and air in the cabin is exchanged every three minutes.
A passport isn't the only thing you'll need to travel in COVID times.
Prepare Your Travel Documents
Now that you’ve done your research and booked your honeymoon, it’s time to get the documents you need together. This can include obtaining passports, scheduling COVID tests, vaccination records and identification updates (if you choose to change your name).

Pack Your Personal Items for Success
Packing for a honeymoon can be almost as stressful as putting down your credit card number to book it! Here is a short list of items to pack in your personal bag to store under the seat in front of you (within easy reach) to get your honeymoon off to a good start.
- Travel documents
- Wallet (money, ATM card, credit cards, identification etc.)
- Small electronic devices, chargers and a power bank
- Headphones
- Medications
- Collapsible water bottle
- Hygiene items (toothbrush, small toothpaste and facial wipes)
- Snacks/gum
- Anything you think you might need/want at a moment’s notice
Don’t let the unexpected (like a flight delay) ruin your honeymoon.
Last But Not Least, Be Flexible
No matter how much you plan, no matter how many reservations you make or how much research you do, something is going to go sideways. You are not going to be able to do everything, and that’s okay. For your sake, and for your spouse’s sake it’s best to remember that the important part is that you are spending time together with the one you love.
