Icon of the Seas: Eastern & Western Caribbean
Royal Caribbean - Opens a dialog recently launched its newest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, with massive fanfare. From what I experienced during an inaugural sailing, Icon of the Seas is true to its name with 8 distinctive neighborhoods - including Thrill Island and its 6 record-breaking waterslides. Even with all of its mind-blowing offerings, it still amazes me that this is the world's largest cruise ship (weighing in at a whopping 250,800 gross tons and 1,198 feet in length).
Looking for thrills or a peaceful waterfront spot to unwind? There is something for everyone at Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Setting sail from Miami, Icon’s seven-night itineraries alternate each week between the Eastern and Western Caribbean, with both itineraries including stops at Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas for a “Perfect Day at CocoCay” experience. Here are some destination highlights you could enjoy during a 2024 Icon of the Seas Caribbean cruise. (Please note: The locations and order of port stops may vary depending on selected itinerary and are subject to change without advance notice. Accurate as of February 2024.)
Visit ancient Mayan ruins, such as the Chacchoben site.
Western Caribbean
After an afternoon departure from Miami, Icon of the Seas spends a day at sea, giving you the chance to experience some of the unique onboard offerings that makes this ship phenomenal. The next morning, Icon arrives at Costa Maya, Mexico where you can experience some of its exciting adventures as I did, including exploring Mayan ruins or snorkel the Great Maya Reef – and before heading back to the ship, peruse the offerings of Mahahual's port village for souvenirs.

Witness the beauty under the sea in the Roatan Barrier Reef.
Later in the day, Icon continues its journey south and will make another stop the next morning at the island of Roatan in Honduras. While here you can snorkel or scuba dive to experience the world's second largest barrier reef. You might also want to consider doing one of my favorite things: ziplining through a rainforest!
Spend the day beachside in beautiful Cozumel.
After departing Roatan, Icon will head north and return to Mexico – but this time, dock in Cozumel, Mexico. While here, you can luxuriate with a beachside massage, snorkel in the pristine waters of Chankanaab National Park or tour Tulum's Mayan ruins. Once you're back onboard Icon, you'll experience an evening of leisure while the ship sails east - and you'll spend another day at sea to enjoy more of ship's signature offerings. (I recommend a spa treatment on this day - but don't forget to book it in advance!)

Make family memories to last a lifetime at CocoCay.
The next morning, the ship will arrive in the Bahamas so you can enjoy a "Perfect Day at Coco Cay." It's your day to completely chill out, so feel free to lounge on the beach, take in the recreational adventures at the water park, go ziplining and more! After departing Coco Cay, Icon will return to Miami the next morning.
For those seeking adventure, try zip lining in St. Maarten!
Eastern Caribbean
Once Icon of the Seas departs from its Miami cruise terminal, the ship will sail at sea for two days. During this time, you will be able to take full advantage of what Icon has to offer. This would be the perfect time to experience Thrill Island, as I did, and enjoy its waterslides as much as possible. You should also enjoy the high adrenaline obstacle course of the Crown's Edge which will leave you dangling over the ocean - while safely attached to the attraction.

Soak in the history and culture St. Thomas has to offer.
If that's not enough, next day you will arrive in Philipsburg, St. Maarten where you can experience ziplining or dial it back a bit with a tour of the local ruins. Once back on board, Icon of the Seas will continue its journey west as it heads for its next port stop: St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Once the ship docks, be sure to enjoy the local culture and cuisine of this vibrant U.S. territory.

After departing St. Thomas, you'll spend the next day cruising at sea, so a spa treatment might be in order before your arrival in the Bahamas the next morning for a "Perfect Day at Coco Cay." While here, get a taste of the South Pacific by booking an overwater bungalow to really luxuriate and further enhance your "Perfect Day." The next day, Icon will return to Miami.
