In January 2024, Royal Caribbean - Opens a dialog launched its newest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, with great fanfare. This ship is currently the world’s largest passenger cruise ship sailing (weighing in at 250,800 gross tons and accommodating up to 7,600 guests in 2,805 cabins), but its size was far from intentional. While designing this next generation of accommodations, entertainment and dining, their plans grew from regular to record-breaking and then into this truly iconic final product.
Always hyper-focused on innovation with a positive, guest-centered experience in mind, Royal Caribbean continues to embrace and enhance the key offerings that its loyal guests have come to love. Those fan-favorites are reflected throughout its new Icon class ships. The 3 new ships which will share the “world’s largest” title: Icon of the Seas (which was recently christened by iconic soccer legend, Lionel Messi), next will be Star of the Seas (debuting in summer 2025), and an as-yet unnamed ship which just began construction in early-January and will debut in 2026.
Those familiar with Royal Caribbean are familiar with their grand and expansive Royal Promenade. This “neighborhood” is not only designed to impress, but it’s also a practical gathering place that serves as the official grand entrance to their ships. However, the Royal Promenade aboard the Icon of the Seas is far more spacious and impressive than previous iterations, particularly with its jaw dropping centerpiece, named The Pearl. This aesthetically pleasing design element, beyond its staircase that’s enveloped within the world’s largest kinetic art sculpture and accented with bold lighting design, also has a structural support purpose.
High end shops, lounges, restaurants and even a Starbucks fill the space with custom design elements and plenty of art. An additional benefit from the vast size of the Royal Promenade is the ample room for guests to peruse and explore at their own pace.
From the standard indoor stateroom to the magnificent Owner’s Suite, each level of accommodation within Icon of the Seas is at the height of modernity. In addition to ample storage, there’s plenty of ambient and accent throughout each stateroom and suite category. The bathrooms are also larger, include more storage, and have special shower enhancements.
Those who enjoy limitless views will be very impressed with Royal Caribbean’s new Sunset Corner Suites and Panoramic Ocean View staterooms. And families of three or more will appreciate the Family Infinite Balcony and Surfside Family Suite – as well as the three-story Ultimate Family Townhouse which sleeps up to 8 and comes complete with its own its own movie room, white picket fence, and direct access to the Icon’s Surfside neighborhood (more on that below).

You and your family will not be bored while sailing Icon of the Seas. This ship has been designed with 8 distinctive neighborhoods that are focused on creative, interactive and exciting diversions. The Royal Promenade is just one of these neighborhoods. Here are the others:
Plenty to keep children and parents entertained at Surfside. (Artist's rendering.)
Find beautiful foliage, shops and restaurants in Central Park. (Artist rendering.)
For some of the best views and solitude during the day, a visit to the AquaDome Overlook is in order!

Naming this ship and its class “Icon” was very appropriate. There are so many new and unexpected offerings onboard, you’ll quickly realize that one sailing aboard won’t be enough. Icon of the Seas - Opens a dialog is currently offering alternating seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.
