Activities in Key Largo are fun for the whole family.
Key Largo
Travelers do not visit Key Largo to play golf or hike. They come here to experience the water. Being home to the only living coral barrier reef in the U.S., it’s easy to understand why Key Largo is a paradise for Scuba divers and snorkelers. The John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is 70 square miles and is the nation’s first undersea park. Its vibrant coral reefs and rich marine life are a feast for the eyes. However, if you’re not an ocean explorer, never fear! You can appreciate all its underwater beauty via a glass-bottom boat tour. And in certain areas of the park, you can enjoy kayaking and canoeing. You should also plan to visit the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary where you can explore historic shipwrecks, indigenous plants, corals, and a variety of marine animals.
Key Largo is ideal for all types of travelers, particularly adventurers and active families who love to spend most of their vacations in water.
You can visit the Southernmost point of the United States here in Key West.
Key West
A little over an hour’s drive west from Marathon, you’ll arrive at the Florida Keys’ center of culture and creativity, Key West. The atmosphere is decidedly Bahamian and Cuban and this is directly connected with its history and heritage. Tennessee Williams, Ernest Hemingway, and other famous writers quickly became fond of Key West to let their creative juices flow. Indeed, the setting is idyllic and you can become just as inspired to write the next best novel if you so choose. Or you can simply do what most visitors do: Enjoy the setting and just relax. In any event, many artists call Key West home, and you will be able to appreciate their works in some of its many galleries. Beyond that, diving, snorkeling, fishing, and golfing are just some of the recreational activities you can take advantage of in Key West.
Key West is ideal for couples, honeymooners and the single traveler.
