Winter is a great time for vacation travel. I don’t mean “visit the family for the holidays”, I mean “get away from the holiday hustle”. Here are some of our favorite places to visit during the winter months.
For Play in the Snow (Cold-Weather Destinations)
If you are looking forward to the crisp, cold air and exciting outdoor activities, we recommend the following destinations.

Whistler, B.C.
So close, yet in an entirely different country. Did you know that Whistler in British Columbia, Canada - Opens a dialog has two mountains to explore? There’s a gondola that can move you from one peak to the other, offering magnificent views throughout the ride. Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and many more snow-related activities are enjoyed at Whistler. At the bottom of the mountains, you'll find the charming Whistler Village, a great home base filled with shops, restaurants, and nightlife. In 2010 Whistler was the host of the Winter Olympic Games. Whistler Olympic Plaza has been beautifully maintained as a popular outdoor performance facility and community space with a park and playground, making it a must-see location in Whistler.

Park City, Utah
Framed by the magnificent Wasatch Range, Park City - Opens a dialog lies east of Salt Lake City, and is known for its proximity to slopes at Deer Valley and Park City Mountain Resort. Salt Lake City hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics, and the Utah Olympic Park can be found right here in Park City. There are so many ski areas nearby, from Alta Ski Area to Solitude Mountain. Family-friendly snow activities abound in these areas as well, such as cross-country skiing, snowboarding, tubing and more.

If you are looking forward to getting out of the cold and into somewhere warmer and sunnier with more sand, we recommend the following destinations.
The beach can be enjoyed year-round in the Dominican Republic.
Dominican Republic
Close to home, just a two-hour flight from Miami, the Dominican Republic - Opens a dialog offers 1,000 miles of coastline and 250 miles of some of the top beaches in the Caribbean. The beaches of the Dominican Republic draw visitors to their shores from around the world. Get ready to shake your hips as you walk along endless beaches accompanied by upbeat Merengue music. The temperature usually varies from 68 degrees to 89 degrees Fahrenheit and is rarely below 65 or above 92. A wonderful complement to a nice cold Caribbean rum drink, and a great way to spend a Winter vacation.

Aloha! Oahu in Hawaii - Opens a dialog hosts the famous Waikiki Beach. Waikiki Beach is known for its famous resorts, high-end shopping, fine dining, and entertainment. Take a walk on the beach. The earlier you go the less crowded it will be. If you are okay with getting a little wet, don’t forget to take off your sandals and dip your walking feet into the ocean! High-end shopping is everywhere on Kalakaua Avenue. Famous designers and recognizable storefronts give it a very big-city feel. The temperature usually varies from 66 degrees to 79 degrees Fahrenheit, and is rarely below 75, making it great for shopping, strolling or relaxing at the pool or on the beach.

The outside is inside (and air-conditioned!) at The Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian.
Las Vegas
My favorite winter destination by far is fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada. - Opens a dialog There is just so much to see and do there. If you want to get your picture taken with the likes of Frank Sinatra or Dwayne Johnson, you can find their wax selves at Madame Tussauds. An absolutely beautiful display awaits exploration at the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. From the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian to The Shoppes at Mandalay Bay, the Las Vegas strip offers wonderful high-end shopping. And speaking of shopping, see what MeowWolf has in store for you at OmegaMart at Area 51. I won’t spoil it for you, but this fully-interactive art installation is a huge hit for my entire family. For the best story experience, don’t forget to get your “boop” card and watch the product testing videos, particularly for Musclefresh Toothpaste and 96-Hour Energy. They are pretty funny!
